Lose yourself in the moment. Experience the inspiring comfort of space. As we navigate the era of the ‘new normal,’ the significance of the places where we work is being redefined. At SAIBI, we envision more than just a workspace. We strive to create environments where people and spaces interact, resonate, and spark new value. From our perspective as an office furniture brand, we continually question and reimagine the role of time and place in shaping the way we work. The ideal workspace is one where people can immerse themselves completely, losing track of time. It is a place that not only encourages deep focus but also awakens the senses, fostering an atmosphere where creativity flourishes and individuality comes to life. At the heart of these spaces is office furniture, the closest point of connection between people and their environment. Crafted with meticulous attention to premium materials, design aesthetics, and the elegance of movement, our furniture has the power to define the very essence of a place. Through these pieces, meaningful workspaces take shape. Inspire users, unlock creativity, and enrich the quality of time. This is the mission of SAIBI.
Work environments are constantly evolving in response to societal shifts.
The concept of the ‘New Office’ emerged in the 1980s, shifting focus beyond efficiency to also prioritize worker comfort and ease of work. As boxy computers, fax machines, and other electronic devices became standard office fixtures, layouts diversified to accommodate them. Partitions were introduced to minimize the noise and heat these machines generated, enhancing overall workplace comfort. By the 1990s, the demand for more comfortable workspaces had grown even stronger. Ergonomically designed office chairs, optimized for prolonged sitting, became increasingly common. Advances in communication technology led to the widespread adoption of mobile devices, allowing employees to work from virtually anywhere. This era also saw the rise of open-plan offices, without fixed seating arrangements.
SAIBI was introduced in 2014, a time of significant shifts in work culture, alongside the rise of futuristic gadgets led by Apple. SAIBI recognized a growing corporate need: moving away from traditional hierarchical workstyles ― where managers observed their teams from private offices ― toward open, collaborative spaces where leaders worked alongside their teams, fostering seamless communication and engagement. To support this transformation, KOKUYO, a leading office furniture manufacturer, launched the SAIBI brand. At the same time, it introduced SAIBI (NEO CHIC) ― a visionary design concept that continues to shape and inspire modern workspaces today.
At the core of SAIBI’s vision of ‘new refinement’ lies the design language of modern tools that defined the industry’s mainstream at the time of its inception. These include products such as the iPhone, boasting a seamless blend of innovation, timeless elegance, subtle sensory engagement, and a sense of weightlessness. Infused with this aesthetic, SAIBI was conceived as a line of professional office furniture that reimagined the traditional workspace. Rather than closed-off private offices reserved for top management, it realized open yet luxurious personal spaces designed for contemporary professionals. Since its launch, SAIBI has been widely adopted by many companies, led by global enterprises seeking sophisticated, high-functioning office environments.
In 2016, SAIBI-TX (TEXTURED MODERN) emerged as a new modern product. While maintaining the foundation of ‘new refinement’ of SAIBI (NEO CHIC), SAIBI-TX sought to counterbalance the stark, impersonal nature of modern design by incorporating textures that engage the human senses. With a focus on clarity, noiselessness, and minimalism, it emphasized the natural bounty of raw materials, creating a workspace that was both essential and deeply immersive, an environment where professionals could think freely and comfortably.
Then, after eight years, SAIBI-LX (RESONANT LUXE) made its debut in 2024.
In recent years, the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted us to rethink not just how we work, but also where and how we live. The shift from commuting to remote work and online meetings, and the migration to suburban areas from cities are all part of the so-called ‘new normal.’ These changes imposed upon us left an indelible mark on our collective memory.
Born in response to this shifting landscape, SAIBI-LX (RESONANT LUXE) presents a distinct atmosphere, setting itself apart from the previous SAIBI product lines. While SAIBI (NEO CHIC) and SAIBI-TX (TEXTURED MODERN) emphasized structured and disciplined design, SAIBI-LX embraces warmth, tranquility, and deep contemplation. It strikes a balance between the high-energy demands of urban work culture and the liberating serenity found in nature, a reflection of society's gradual transition from relentless growth toward a more sustainable approach. As people's needs evolve, so too must the workspaces that center on them. And, naturally, the essential elements of these spaces ― office furniture ― must evolve as well.
At the heart of SAIBI’s product line lies a uniquely Japanese approach to thoughtfulness. Rather than simply adding features to enhance user satisfaction, SAIBI focuses on eliminating obstacles that hinder productivity. This philosophy of Japanese hospitality is woven into every aspect of our designs. Below, we explore the principles of functional beauty, meticulous craftsmanship, and the design philosophy that shape our pieces.
SAIBI envisions functional beauty to make every action feel intuitive and effortless. Even a seemingly minor element, such as a cable cover, is designed with multiple layers of consideration: minimizing operational noise, ensuring smooth movement, and allowing for hassle-free maintenance. While such details may seem excessive, the cable cover is an element workers interact with throughout the day. By ensuring optimal accessibility ― locating outlets within easy reach and allowing effortless connection from any seating position ― SAIBI actively works to eliminate friction in the workspace. This commitment to practical yet refined functionality allows workers to focus entirely on their tasks.
Beyond functional beauty, SAIBI embodies a deep reverence for craftsmanship, reflecting a distinctively Japanese sensibility. One notable example is the seamless integration of screws. While it is expected that visible surfaces should be polished and well-finished, SAIBI extends this principle to hidden areas as well. Even the back panels and interior joints are carefully refined to create a smooth and uninterrupted surface, a level of precision reminiscent of the hidden nail techniques used in traditional Japanese architecture. Though these details may go unnoticed in daily use and this level of craftsmanship may increase production costs, SAIBI views this meticulous attention to detail as an essential investment that upholds the quality and spirit of the product as a whole.
Ultimately, SAIBI is designed to create an environment where workers can focus deeply and perform at their best. By optimizing both usability and atmosphere, SAIBI delivers a hospitality-driven approach to office furniture.
In this sense, when a company chooses SAIBI, it is not merely selecting office furniture ― it is making a statement about its commitment to employee well-being. Through its products, SAIBI aims to engage the senses of each individual worker, enabling them to translate that heightened awareness into meaningful work.
Now and in the future, SAIBI will continue to evolve alongside the changing needs of society, ensuring that workspaces remain centered on the people who use them.
